Omega: a clock, with more lights
In Norway, a linjeforening leader who visits another linjeforening's party brings a gift to the host. This was ours: an off-the-shelf clock retrofitted with addressable LEDs and an ESP32, capable of doing things a clock should probably not be able to do. A day-long build.
Front.
Back.
The mod
- Pulled the clock apart, kept the mechanism, added an addressable LED strip around the dial.
- An ESP32 drives the LEDs, talks Wi-Fi, and exposes a small set of effects.
- Mounted everything inside the original housing so it still looks like a clock until it suddenly doesn't.
What it really was
A reminder that a "small project" is often the most satisfying kind. One day from breadboard to gift-wrapped, no over-engineering, no scope creep, no production deploy. I would like more days like that.
